Located in the heart ofAix-en-Provence, Galerie Le Container is a showroom dedicated tocontemporary art. It features works ranging from painting to photography, contemporary drawings, objets d'art and, of course, sculpture such as abstract sculpture.
Founded in 2016 by Déborah Bosseaux and Clément Dorance, its vocation is to promote artists exploring innovative and experimental forms. Initially created to be itinerant, the gallery traveled around France for several months. It then settled in the magnificent town of Aix-en-Provence.
Far from traditional representations, abstract sculpture finds a place of choice in the gallery, where artists such as Lise Gonthier and François Bel exhibit works in which matter and volumes become the real protagonists.

Abstract art emerged in the early 20th century, breaking away from figurative art in favor of a more conceptual and emotional approach.
Artists such as Wassily Kandinsky and Piet Mondrian initiated this movement by pushing back the boundaries of traditional representation. Sculpture, influenced by the cubism of Picasso and Braque, gradually evolved towards forms freed from narrative constraints.
The 1950s saw the emergence of abstract sculptures by artists such as Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth and Jean Arp, who favored organic, fluid forms. More recently, artists such as Anish Kapoor and Richard Serra have explored the interaction between space and material, giving abstract sculpture an immersive, monumental dimension. These gigantic works can be found in the streets of major cities, interacting with the public.
Abstract sculpture offers infinite artistic possibilities. Abstract sculpture is distinguished by several fundamental elements:
● Absence of figurative representation: The work does not seek to imitate reality but to arouse emotion.
● Experimentation with materials: Use of metal, glass, stone, wood, concrete or resins.
● Formal freedom: Lines, curves and volumes are shaped according to each artist's own logic.
● Play on textures and light: Surfaces can be smooth, rough, matte or reflective to accentuate the visual effect. There are no rules for abstract sculpture.
● Interactive approach: Some sculptures invite the viewer to move around them to appreciate their multiple facets.
