Luxembourg, born in 2001
It only takes a few minutes of meeting Yanis Miltgen to realize that you are in the presence of an exceptional artist. At just 25 years old, this Luxembourg designer has already won four international awards, including one that conferred upon him the title of official embroiderer to the British Crown. He has participated in Luxembourg Fashion Week, and the press unanimously describes him as a young prodigy, leaving little room for doubt.
From the world of fashion to embroidery, then from embroidery to sculpture, Yanis Miltgen shines at every stage of his career.
He develops a unique sculptural language by embroidering around aluminum rods, giving rise to malleable works that can take on different forms, whether wall-mounted or suspended. These sculptures evolve, interact with the space, and adapt to their environment.
Beads, embroidered flowers and fruits, shells, and ornaments enrich the structure and compose narratives. Each work is part of a "collection," a term borrowed from the world of fashion, reflecting the persistence of this heritage in his approach to sculpture.
Delicate, meticulous, almost obsessive, his work pushes the boundaries of embroidery and craftsmanship. Each creation requires between 300 and 1,500 hours of work and can incorporate up to 100,000 beads. This extreme level of detail offers a unique approach to contemporary sculpture and the understanding of space.
A rising star in contemporary art, Yanis Miltgen received early support from the Luxembourg Ministry of Culture to exhibit internationally. Paris has also taken notice: the Palace Le Meurice has already acquired two of his works for the 2024 Olympic Games.
With an already established signature style, Yanis Miltgen is an artist who is generating a lot of buzz. But these early echoes are undoubtedly just a faint hum compared to the scale and resonance of the journey that lies ahead.
