BRIAN CADDY

Born in 1988

Brian Caddy creates work deeply rooted in his everyday surroundings, inspired by the light and atmosphere of the French Riviera. Based in Le Cannet and with close ties to Nice, he draws on an intimate landscape where domestic space becomes a true canvas for artistic exploration.

His compositions revolve around simple subjects—still lifes, fragments of interiors, and everyday objects—which he selects for their immediate familiarity rather than their symbolic significance. A table, a vase, or a piece of fruit thus become the vehicles for a sensitive reflection on time, presence, and the experience of reality. Through this deliberately pared-down perspective, Brian Caddy reveals the quiet richness of everyday life and offers a way to slow down in the face of contemporary visual saturation.

His painting is characterized by a bold use of flat areas of color, without gradation, where light is created through the juxtaposition of clean, vibrant surfaces. The forms, deliberately simplified, oscillate between figuration and abstraction, striking a subtle balance that allows for an open interpretation of the image.

Trained at the Villa Thiole in Nice and later at the Beaux-Arts in Toulon, Brian Caddy’s practice is rooted in a quest for freedom and spontaneity, embracing a direct, unconstrained approach. His work also bears the mark of influences drawn from the visual culture of the 1980s and 1990s, as well as from design and certain postmodern movements, notably the Memphis movement.

Although his early work was rooted in the world of graffiti, this aspect now serves as just one of several means of expression, integrated into a broader artistic practice. His work thus weaves connections between visual cultures, personal memory, and contemporary language, in a style that is at once sensitive, colorful, and resolutely contemporary.
