Timothée Bocage

Born in 1996

Timothée Bocage was born and lives in Dunkirk.

From an early age, he was immersed in art and creativity. His paternal grandmother, a painter, introduced him to the plastic arts at an early age and passed on her passion.

At the age of 20, while studying communications in Lille, he went to the Dunkirk Carnival. The explosion of color and creativity all around triggered a change in him: he returned to Lille, bought canvases, paints and brushes and enrolled in a school of applied arts.

He will be exhibiting for the first time in 2019, at the age of 23.

His path towards abstraction was a gradual one. Her first paintings, influenced by great masters such as Picasso, Miró and Basquiat, depict colorful portraits. Geometry was already there, and the desire to bring it to the fore gradually grew. Colors and volumes become the subject.

Because it contains no images of the outside world, abstract art requires us to make an extra effort to connect with our emotions.

Dora Vallier, in her book "L'Art abstrait", introduces this notion in the very first pages: "The artist no longer names, he expresses. It is up to the viewer to grasp the meaning of what is being expressed through his or her reactions.

This is the subtlety of Timothée Bocage's work: the shapes play with the viewer. Sometimes they suggest the figurative, sometimes they dance together to represent only the flow of the artist's emotions.

The shapes are defined by clean, controlled lines, each enclosing a color. When two volumes overlap and intermingle, a delicate play of transparency gives rise to a new shape and a new color.

A painting by Timothée Bocage blends the madness of abstraction with the wisdom of technical mastery. There's a certain elegance, a gentleness and a skilful emotional balance that invades the viewer with calm, positive waves.
