Born in 1988
JM ROBERT began painting at a very early age, imitating the effects of patina, dirt and decay he observed on building facades. Ruins and deteriorated walls have always fascinated him. He then went on to study in the Métiers d'Arts (graphic design and decor) where he learned various professional techniques such as trompe l'oeil.
Today, he seeks to develop his own aesthetic conception of ruin in his canvases. Complex, contradictory allegories of time, urban walls can juxtapose a 19th-century molding with a brightly colored graffiti. It's this contemporary contrast that appeals to and inspires him.
After content and form comes the theme: the female portrait, spanning all the eras of art history, as eternal muse, majesty or new contemporary figure.
