Marie Deforche was born, raised and lives in Provence. Deeply attached to her region, she paints it with minimalism, gentleness and poetry. Her artworks are true tributes to Provence. It is with humility, affection and almost devotion that Marie, on the occasion of Cézanne Year 2025, has decided to follow in the artist's footsteps. With the elegance and grace that characterize her painting, Marie allows us to rediscover the Provençal landscapes so dear to Cézanne.
From the legendary Sainte-Victoire to the creeks of Marseilleveyre, Marie takes us on a journey from the land to the sea. The woman, often at the center of her canvases, becomes for the duration of a painting a card player, the terracotta vases are transformed into earthenware dishes, the olive trees into orange trees... So many nods to Cézanne, the "father of modern art" who influenced such greats as Picasso and Matisse, and continues to inspire young contemporary artists.
