SÉBASTIEN ROYEZ

Born in 1971

Sébastien Royez is a multi-disciplinary artist from northern France. A painter and photographer, he has been developing a singular body of work between his studios in Marrakech and Rognac since 1985.

He began his artistic career in Belgium, where he graduated from the École Saint-Luc, before continuing his training at the Ateliers de Sèvres in Paris. He soon joined the Parisian Fresqu'île studio, specializing in monumental trompe-l'œil. At the same time, he trained in graphic design and worked as art director for several Parisian agencies, while continuing to paint and explore photography.

Founder of his own graphic design agency, he develops visual identities and, with his team, designs several mobile applications between Paris and San Francisco. In 2017, he set up offices in Marrakech to develop his digital projects, before refocusing his activity entirely on artistic creation.

The same year, deeply inspired by African culture, he presented his first series of paintings based on traditional masks. He studied their origins, symbolism and graphic force, transposing them into a contemporary world using acrylic and oil paint. He makes the mask a central motif in his work, constantly revisiting it in his painting and photography.

Since 2017, Sébastien Royez has exhibited regularly in Morocco, the United States, Belgium and France, affirming an artistic approach rich in influences and resolutely focused on the essential: the power of mystery.
