In 2025, Charles Malherbe was invited to curate an exhibition at the Maison des Consuls – Museum of Arts and Archaeology, located in the heart of the medieval village of Les Matelles (34270). The Maison des Consuls defines itself as a "living" archaeology museum: a place rooted in its territory and in dialogue with the surrounding archaeological sites, while remaining open to its era and contemporary creation. An approach that brings the past into resonance with the present, considering that today's works constitute tomorrow's heritage. It is in this context that two artists, including Charles Malherbe, were selected to design the exhibition "Construire" (Building), based on the concepts of architecture, volume, and matter.
The works in the exhibition combine vestiges of the past with imagined constructions, giving rise to sensitive architectures that are both familiar and fictional.
Presented today at the gallery, these sculptures can be discovered in a different way: each piece opens up a narrative where fragility and resilience meet, giving way to possible futures and the collective imagination. "Demain, Vestiges & Utopies" marks Charles Malherbe's first solo show at the gallery.
Finally, we would like to extend our warmest thanks to the collectors who have supported this institutional exhibition by lending their works, thereby demonstrating their trust and generosity.
