CHRYSTEL REGORD

A feminist artist at heart, Chrystel came across some old irons one day: "I immediately saw the potential of this obsolete, gendered object".

Her artworks, aesthetically pleasing in their execution and shocking in their denunciation, highlight the power of women and pay tribute to them through the misogyny they have suffered and endured for centuries.

On old 19th-century irons, we first discover female portraits, posing proudly, like Byzantine icons on a gilded background. Just below, the damning, misogynistic words of a learned man... and below that, the name of the woman pictured and her achievements. The male quotation is inverted, deconstructed and ridiculed. The woman, glorified, becomes a symbol of courage, an icon, a role model.

In this first series, entitled "Les Bêtises", Chrystel pays tribute to what she calls "her battalion of inspiring women". A genuine dialogue is established between the object, the photograph and the quotation.
